It develops a short trunk that branches into a relatively open crown of thick, upright to slightly arching stems, creating the candelabra-like form for which it is commonly grown. Mature plants can reach around 10 m in favorable conditions, although cultivated specimens are generally much smaller. The stout branches are usually four-angled, with thick, undulating ribs and small paired brown spines along the edges. In warm, humid conditions, small lance-shaped leaves may appear near the growing tips, but the thick green stems remain the dominant feature. Small yellow-green cyathia develop along the upper branches, followed by small three-lobed fruits. Grow Euphorbia ammak in full sun or very bright light and sharply drained soil. Water thoroughly during active growth, allowing the soil to dry between waterings, and keep the plant considerably drier during cool winter conditions. It is drought tolerant once established but frost tender and should be protected from freezing temperatures. Its eventual size makes it best suited to spacious dry landscapes, succulent gardens and large containers. The milky latex is highly irritating and can cause serious eye injury, so use gloves and eye protection when handling or pruning.
