It develops a large fleshy tuber below ground and a short central stem from which numerous branches radiate outward in a low, rounded form. The branches are cylindrical to club-shaped, grey-green to blue-green, and covered with small tubercles rather than prominent spines. In cultivation, the branches can elongate and become somewhat snake-like as the plant matures. Small, rudimentary leaves appear briefly near the growing tips before falling. During spring and summer, small white to yellow flowers develop near the ends of the branches and can cover a well-grown plant. Grow Euphorbia inermis in full sun or very bright light and sharply drained soil. A deep container with excellent drainage is useful to accommodate its tuberous root. Water during active growth, allowing the soil to dry between waterings, and keep the plant nearly dry during cool winter conditions. It is relatively slow growing and has some frost tolerance when kept dry, although protection from prolonged freezing is advisable. Its low, spreading form makes it well suited to rock gardens, succulent collections, dry landscapes and containers.
