Aloe 'David Verity', a robust hybrid developed by botanist and botanical garden manager David Verity, is a clumping plant reaching heights of up to 6 feet tall and wide, featuring large rosettes of bold silver-blue slightly-recurving leaves that blush reddish near the tips. In mid to late winter, branching bicolored flower spikes emerge with tight pink buds in a spiraled pattern, eventually opening into cream white to pale butter yellow flowers from the bottom to the top of the spike, displaying both red and white colors simultaneously. First introduced by the International Succulent Society in 2001, Aloe 'David Verity' originates from a plant at the Huntington Botanic Garden, with parentage speculated to be a cross between an Aloe arborescens hybrid and Aloe × principis. It thrives in full sun to light shade in moderately well-drained soil, being drought tolerant and suitable for coastal regions with minimal irrigation. Hardy to at least 25 degrees F, it can be used as a specimen plant or massed with other aloes and succulents, making an impressive screening or barrier plant and serving as a good hedge plant for landscaping purposes.
