Aloe spicata - 4in

Aloe spicata, native to South Africa, is an impressive, fast-growing plant characterized by its large, gracefully curving leaves. Typically growing on a trunk as a shrub to 4 to 6 feet tall, it often clusters and stands out due to its branching habit. The plant features dense rosettes of long, tapering leaves with bright green coloration infused with orange-pink to red tones, particularly near the margins, which may turn entirely coppery-red in dry conditions. Aloe spicata blooms in late winter to early spring, producing solitary, compact columnar racemes with brown-yellow flowers. These inflorescences cover about 70% of the length of the entire inflorescence and are characterized by their shaving brush appearance owing to dense, sessile, yellow-green flowers and long stamens. Originating from steep slopes in Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, and northeastern South Africa, Aloe spicata thrives in full sun to light shade with occasional to infrequent irrigation. Hardy to light/moderate frost, it is suitable for medium to large succulent gardens, hillside plantings, and informal hedges, providing striking seasonal interest with its colorful foliage.
