Agave gypsicola (White Maguey)
A sculptural Oaxacan agave with a cool, silvery-blue hue and perfectly symmetrical form. Agave gypsicola forms a compact rosette 3–4 ft tall and 4–5 ft wide, composed of broad, ovate leaves that appear almost chalked with pale ash. The smooth, matte foliage is lined with fine reddish teeth and reflects the mineral soils of its native gypsum slopes in southern Mexico.
In maturity, it sends up a tall, unbranched stalk bearing green-yellow blooms that attract pollinators before the parent rosette completes its life cycle. Slow-growing but durable, it thrives in full sun and fast-draining, mineral soil with little water once established. Hardy to about 20–25 °F (USDA Zone 9a+).
Ideal as a specimen in xeric gardens, rockeries, or large containers, where its symmetry and pale coloration soften stone and concrete. Related to Agave guiengola but with shorter, flatter leaves and a denser form, White Maguey adds refined geometry and subtle color contrast to any arid landscape.
