Agave ‘Mr. Ripple’ – Undulating Blue-Green Agave
A grand, sculptural hybrid prized for its sweeping, wave-like leaves and bold form. Agave ‘Mr. Ripple’ is believed to be a natural cross between Agave salmiana and A. protoamericana, discovered by Wade Roitsch of Yucca Do Nursery near Ciudad del Maíz, San Luis Potosí, Mexico in 2001. Mature rosettes reach up to 5 ft tall and 8 ft wide, forming broad, rippling leaves of satin blue-green that catch light beautifully across their undulating margins.

Despite its imposing size, this agave carries an elegant presence—its rounded teeth and smooth texture lend softness to its structure. It grows as a solitary rosette and, once mature, sends up a towering flower stalk with greenish-yellow blooms that attract hummingbirds before the plant completes its life cycle.

Hardy to around 10–15 °F (USDA Zone 8b–10b), ‘Mr. Ripple’ is among the most cold-tolerant large agaves and thrives in full sun with excellent drainage. Water deeply but infrequently; it maintains a lush appearance even through dry summers.

Ideal for focal placement in expansive xeric landscapes, modern desert gardens, or large containers, this agave’s rhythmic leaf movement and blue-green tone create a dramatic counterpoint to rock, gravel, or architectural plantings.
