Also sold as Aloe "Super Spiny" - but whether it's "Spiney" or "Spiny" it always very pokey. These are still young but retailers have been buying them so it's time to release a few to public.

Aloe aculeata is a mid-sized, stemless aloe from South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique that forms a rounded solitary rosette about 2 to just over 3 feet tall and wide, known for its dense surface spines, marginal teeth, and foliage that shifts from dull green to glaucous or bronze tones under stress. Leaves reach up to 24 inches long and 4–5 inches wide at the base, standing erect and slightly incurved, with prominent spines arising from pale circular bases on both surfaces and a sharp terminal spine, giving stressed plants a tight, teardrop-shaped form. In winter it produces cylindrical racemes up to 2 feet long on stout stalks that may branch with age, bearing reddish-orange to yellow buds that open to orange or yellow flowers, sometimes bicolored. Native to rocky slopes and open bushveld from roughly 500 to over 5,000 feet in elevation, the species name aculeata refers to its prickly leaves, and the plant once appeared on the South African 10-cent coin. It thrives in well-drained, sandy or gritty soil with full sun to light shade, regular summer irrigation when young, and dry conditions in winter; poor drainage or excess moisture can cause fungal problems. Hardy to about 28°F when dry, it is best suited to USDA Zones 9–10. In gardens it serves as a drought-tolerant sculptural accent for xeriscapes, rockeries, and dry borders, offering seasonal winter color and supporting birds and insects with its nectar-rich flowers.
