Aloe bosseri, commonly known as Bosser’s Aloe, is a soft-leaved Aloe species native to western Madagascar, where it thrives in rocky, arid habitats. It forms a mild clustering habit with an open, sprawling rosette of smooth, light-green leaves that gracefully recurve outward, sometimes displaying reddish-pink hues under bright sun or stress. Lacking marginal spines, its foliage is soft to the touch and drapes slightly over edges in cultivation. Growing slowly, it reaches 6-12 inches in height and spreads beyond its base. Blooming in warm seasons, it produces branched inflorescences with red-orange tubular flowers and greenish-yellow lips, attracting birds and insects. Preferring full sun to partial shade, it requires well-draining, sandy or rocky soil and occasional watering in the growing season while remaining dry in winter. Hardy in USDA Zones 9-11, it tolerates colder temperatures but should be protected from prolonged cold. Ideal for rock gardens, desert landscapes, and containers, its smooth, arching leaves create an elegant display while contributing to wildlife-friendly gardens.
