Cold Climates - Add Heat Pack
For cold climates with upcoming sub-32-degree temperatures within five days of your order, we strongly advise adding a heat pack. Orders without a heat pack will not include one.
To prevent plants from freezing while in transit, orders placed for areas with severe freezing temperatures will be held for shipment until it is safe to ship.
Widely distributed in southern African deserts, Aloe claviflora is mid-sized, stemless, and clusters with chalky blue-grey rosettes. Its leaves are upright, pale bluish, and face outward, offering an asymmetric appearance. Resilient to arid conditions, the plant's leaves turn whitish to reflect sunlight during dry spells, and they close to protect young leaves from heat stress. Flowers are orangey-coral club-shaped blooms that emerge horizontally, attracting pollinators. Found in South Africa's arid interior, Aloe claviflora was first recorded in 1811 and thrives in rocky, well-drained soils. It requires minimal water, avoiding over watering to prevent rot. Tolerant to cold, larger plants withstand temperatures into the high 20s. Suitable for dry tropical or warm temperate gardens, it adapts well to containers and transplanting. Perfect for rock gardens in low rainfall areas, it adds unique charm to smaller gardens.
