Aloe diolii is an evergreen, clump-forming aloe native to northeastern Africa, where it grows in seasonally dry tropical landscapes and develops as a low, spreading succulent subshrub rather than a single-stemmed plant. In cultivation it forms loose ground-level colonies composed of many open rosettes, making it visually distinct from more upright or solitary aloes and appealing primarily to collectors of African species. Individual rosettes are relaxed in form, with long, narrow, lanceolate leaves that arch gently outward with age, creating a soft, spreading profile. The foliage is medium green, unmarked by spots or bands, with a matte to lightly glossy surface and subtle, pale marginal teeth that give the plant a lightly scalloped outline without heavy armament. Flowering stems rise clearly above the foliage on slender, upright to slightly arching stalks and branch to carry pendent, tubular flowers. These blooms are pink to coral in tone with yellow visible at the throat, and the slightly exserted stamens suggest adaptation to nectar-feeding pollinators. Aloe diolii is native to South Sudan, including mountainous areas such as Mt. Lorienetom, and was formally described by L. E. Newton in 1995, with little subsequent horticultural history due to its rarity in cultivation. It performs best in warm, frost-free climates with well-drained soil, sun to partial shade, and sparse watering, and is considered frost tender, making it most appropriate for USDA Zone 11 or protected container culture where its spreading habit and seasonal flowers can be appreciated.
