Aloe glauca "Namaqualand",  also known as Namaqualand Blue Aloe, is a perennial succulent from South Africa. It forms rosettes on a short trunk, reaching 2 to 3 feet in height and width. The leaves, nearly white with faint green lines, are about 10 inches long and slightly recurve. While not consistent, it produces stout inflorescences with tightly held salmon-colored flowers from late fall to spring, enhancing its garden appeal. Thriving in full sun to mostly sunny locations, it has low water needs and prefers well-drained, lean, gritty soil. Drought tolerant once established, it prefers dryness in winter. Flowering in spring, fall, and winter, it attracts hummingbirds and beneficial insects. Originating from South Africa's Namaqualand region, it's the northern-most form of the Aloe glauca species, suitable for xeriscapes, rock gardens, and containers. With low to medium frost tolerance, it can withstand temperatures down to 15-20°F, but frost protection is advisable. Resistant to deer, rabbits, heat, and verticillium wilt, it offers year-round interest with its blue foliage and seasonal blooms, making it ideal for arid climates.
