Aloe labworana - 4in

Aloe labworana, native to Uganda, is a large, stemless, clustering aloe with compact rosettes of 20 to 30-inch-long by 4-inch-wide leaves. These leaves, often spotted and in shades of blue-green to gray, feature tiny reddish-brown teeth along the margins. Typically solitary and stemless, this species forms attractive, spreading, recurved rosettes reaching about 4 feet in diameter and 3 feet tall. In late autumn to winter, Aloe labworana produces spectacular, yellow flowers on multibranched inflorescences. Endemic to the Karamoja Mountains in Uganda and the Imatong Mountains in southern Sudan, it thrives on rocky outcrops, though its habitat is threatened due to rock quarrying. This species, named for its range in the Labwor Hills of western Karamoja, Uganda, is often cultivated for its ornamental flowers. To cultivate, plant in full sun in well-drained soil and irrigate occasionally to infrequently. Cold hardy to around 25° F, Aloe labworana's profuse yellow flower display adds a splash of color to winter gardens.
