Furcraea bedinghausii, also known as Bedinghaus' Dracaena or Mexican Starburst, is a large, perennial succulent from central Mexico, closely related to Agaves and Yuccas. This monocarpic species forms a tall trunk with a crown of soft, pliable bluish-grey-green leaves that can reach up to 4 feet in length. The plant typically grows up to 12 to 16 feet tall, with a width of 4 to 6 feet. It produces a conical flower spike that can rise 12 to 25 feet above the foliage, bearing greenish-white flowers before dying and leaving behind numerous bulbils for propagation. Native to the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, this species was introduced to European gardens in the 19th century and is now considered threatened in its native habitat. Furcraea bedinghausii thrives in full sun to part shade and well-drained soil, requiring minimal irrigation once established. It is relatively frost-hardy, tolerating temperatures as low as 20 to 25°F, and is suitable for USDA zones 9 to 11. Ideal for large, architectural focal points in dry gardens, rockeries, or near pools, it pairs well with other drought-tolerant species like Agaves and Yuccas.
This plant was grown in a 6 inch pot and will be shipped "dry-root".
