Furcraea macdougalii, also known as MacDougal’s Giant Century Plant, is a striking succulent native to Southern Mexico, admired for its towering height and dramatic foliage. Its blue-green, spiny-edged leaves can grow up to 10 feet long, forming a bold architectural presence in the landscape. True to its "Century Plant" nickname, it blooms only once in its lifetime, producing a spectacular 15- to 40-foot-tall flower stalk with creamy-white, bell-shaped blooms before dying back and regenerating from its base. This drought-tolerant species thrives in well-draining soil and requires minimal watering, making it a low-maintenance yet visually stunning choice for warm climates. Ideal for xeriscaping, it can withstand temperatures as low as 10°C but flourishes best between 21°C and 32°C. While fertilizer is optional, occasional feeding in spring and summer can encourage growth. Furcraea macdougalii’s striking form and resilience make it a captivating addition to any arid or Mediterranean-style garden.
